Ice cream shop Prime Gelato needs Gelato Chef in Canada -Ontario – Grand Opening in June 2016.
We’re looking for the right individuals to join our team that are deeply passionate about food and customer service!
Expected to open in June 2016, Prime Gelato will manufacture gelato and sorbet using local milk, fruits, veggies, herbs, etc, directly from our farmers. Passionate about gelato, we went straight to the source and studied the age old craft of artisanal gelato at the famous Gelato School of Italy. Using state of the art Italian pasteurizers and batch freezers we are excited to begin making unforgettable flavours of gelato and sorbet, right here in Thunder Bay from scratch.
We’re currently focused on searching for a chef to lead our team in crafting unforgettable experiences, both for our tasting room and for wholesale production. Should we find the right individual we pledge to invest time, energy and funds into developing them to be a world class gelato meastro. Becoming the Chef at Prime Gelato has wonderful upside as well as a good work life balance with daytime hours.
As a young start-up company with lofty ambitions of producing amazing gelato pints for food specialty stores and restaurants across the province, we hope to find passionate team members to help achieve that goal. – Gelato Maker Responsibilities:
- Produce approximately 200L of fresh gelato and/or sorbet each day
- Prepare raw ingredients for each flavour
- Assist in the creation and development of new flavours
- Follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines with care
- Keep kitchen and freezer areas inviting, clean, and organized
- Wash dishes & utensils throughout your shift
Qualifications;
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs and to stand for up to 8 hours
- Passion for food, cooking, and quality
- Detail oriented and can produce a consistent high quality product
- Proficient in mathematics and Excel
- Food Safe Certificate
- Over 5 years experience in the culinary field

As our Brand Ambassador and professional gelato scooper, your friendly approach and ability to provide amazing customer service at all times is what makes you an integral part of our company.
Responsibilities will include;
- Providing exceptional customer service
- Introducing hundreds of new customers to the wonderful world of gelato and ensuring every customer has a positive experience
- Acting as floor supervisor in management absence to ensure smooth store operations
- Actively working to increase customer traffic and reach sales goals through sampling and community initiatives
- Operating our POS, handling cash & credit/debit transactions
- Being a leader in executing store operational duties
- Maintaining store aesthetic by cleaning, stocking and organizing
Qualifications;
- Over 3 years of customer service experience preferably in the food industry
- Food Safe certified (preferable)
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs and to stand for up to 8 hours

We’re looking for a positive individual with strong communication and team building skills required to effectively lead the team. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and put an emphasis on customer service. You are a great coach and mentor to team members, and promote a positive and fun team atmosphere.
Requirements;
· Experience improving sales performance through best practices, team building and effective sales and store operations strategies an asset
· Extensive customer service knowledge
· Experience as an assistant manager
· Proficiency with computers and iPads·
