Are you an experienced  Pizzaiolo Chef with a love for delicious, authentic Italian food?

We are seeking a pizza chef  who can use their energy, expertise and passion to ensure a superior quality of service and product at all times.

About us

The Esplanade is at the heart of the stunning St Clair beach in Dunedin New Zealand. We serve beautiful Italian food made with highest quality ingredients paired with a local and Italian-inspired drinks list.
At the Esplanade, we are inspired by the classic flavours of Italy and the relaxed vibe of the Kiwi beach. The Esplanade is a bustling and fun place with an expert team who want to share their passion for our food and drink with our customers.

Our doors are open from early in the morning and we start the day with our breakfast menu and freshly made in-house baking and coffee. Our main menu starts at noon and we continue to offer food all the way through until late each evening. All menu items are available take away. Offering all this means we are an extremely busy and a fast-paced environment to work in. Being at the heart of the hugely popular St. Clair beach, we are a destination restaurant for many loyal customers, as well as tourists and those seeking an authentic taste of Italy. Our style is welcoming, engaging and lively whilst always maintaining an attentive and professional experience for all our customers.

About the role

This is a challenging and exciting role for someone with initiative, energy and passion. You will also be an integral part of the kitchen team working on in the pizza section with our wood-fired oven of the kitchen using authentic slow-rise dough and Italian ingredients. 

What you’ll need to offer

  • Experience as a pizza chef in a fast paced kitchen environment

·         Reliable, organised, quick, creative and cool under pressure

·         Passionate about Italian food and keen to learn in a supportive environment

·         Excellent communication, time management & organisation skills

·         Excellent food presentation

·         The ability to confidently manage own section and maintain a clean, safe, tidy and hygienic work environment

·         A strong focus on quality

·         Great energy, enthusiasm and a “can-do” attitude.

What we can offer you!

At The Esplanade we offer comprehensive training and induction, to ensure that you are to speed with the way we do things. This will include understanding our food, as well as understanding the culture of the restaurant and our customers. You will also receive ongoing support, development and training.

When you work with us, all staff are entitled to a discount when dining. All staff are also provided with a staff meal and drink is when working 5 hours or more.
