At the Esplanade, we are inspired by the classic flavours of Italy and the relaxed vibe of the Kiwi beach. The Esplanade is a bustling and fun place with an expert team who want to share their passion for our food and drink with our customers.
Our doors are open from early in the morning and we start the day with our breakfast menu and freshly made in-house baking and coffee. Our main menu starts at noon and we continue to offer food all the way through until late each evening. All menu items are available take away. Offering all this means we are an extremely busy and a fast-paced environment to work in. Being at the heart of the hugely popular St. Clair beach, we are a destination restaurant for many loyal customers, as well as tourists and those seeking an authentic taste of Italy. Our team is passionate about zero-waste and reducing our environmental footprint; we compost our green waste then use the compost to grow our restaurant garden, which supplies our kitchen with fresh herbs and greens as well as seasonal vegetables. We make ethical choices and partner with like-minded producers across our food and beverage offerings.
With our Italian identity we have a dynamic multicultural team and a broad customer base. We have a great cultural mix from locals through to people from as far away as the UK and Uruguay; experienced professionals through to young people making their way in hospitality. About the role
The bar staff work alongside our floor staff preparing exceptional drinks, these range from cocktails, to wine to coffee. We have an amazing drinks list made up of Italian classics and local New Zealand drinks too. We are a busy restaurant so require someone that thrives under pressure and can work to a high standard in busy periods. This role will provide you with the opportunity to learn and grow your hospitality career and be a part of a committed, skilled and collaborate team.
What you’ll need to offer
Our front of house team works hard to ensure that ‘excellence is a habit’. We are therefore looking for someone who can demonstrate the following attributes and skills
- A minimum of one-year experience working In a busy bar
- Has a good knowledge of Italian wines
- Have experience making cocktails and cold drinks
- Ideally have experience making coffee
- Enjoys working in a busy restaurant and bar environment
- Socially confident with excellent customer service skills
- Has excellent attention to detail, demonstrating high standards of punctuality, cleanliness and personal presentation
- Indicates a positive ‘can do attitude’
- Enjoys working to high standards and working under pressure
- Is able engage with customers appropriately and respond to their needs
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Friendly approachable manner
What we can offer you!
At The Esplanade we offer comprehensive training and induction, to ensure that you are to speed with the way we do things. This will include understanding our menus and drinks as well as understanding the culture of the restaurant and our customers.
